Everyone enjoys music, I have met a few people in my short life that have said 'meh, I'm not too bothered about it' and haven't really understood their answer, but they all have a song they think is 'alright' or 'yeah, you know, its not bad' maybe not a favourite artist or band but an 'alright' song is good enough for me. Now, if you've spent a lot of time with me in the past year or so you'll probably came to have realised that I'm a dick with music, I like it to be good and from the heart and it makes me pull funny faces, say funny things and move strange when I listen too it, it's also the only thing I talk about because it's probably the only thing I truly truly love, no offence to any of my friends or anything, but you know how it is when people annoy you,(I'm pretty sure I can annoy people too) there is always that one thing you can turn to every time to make you feel alright again then mine is always music, usually something John Frusciante related, solo stuff, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ataxia, Collaborations with Josh Klinghoffer, Mars Volta, Glenn Hughes, N.A.S.A, etc. but anyway that's all a side-note.
What I really want to talk about is being in bands and bands in general, good bands, not 'Scouting For Girls' or fucking 'The Fray' or whoever else has dodgy 'cool' hair and a catchy chorus (see what I mean by being a dick with music). Good bands like Zeppelin, Chili Peppers, Muse, The Beatles, Deep Purple, rainfalldown (I kid) etc. I find it funny how they all trust each other to play their instruments right, to play the right songs and to come up with pieces that the rest of the band likes, and then to sell it to the world and that the majority of people like! It's so strange to think that The Beatles who are the biggest selling band of all time, came up with all this music that (practically) the whole world enjoys and it all came from the mind of Paul McCartney or John Lennon or maybe the odd one from George but we'll not push the boat out. And even then, their earlier stuff that the whole world fell in love with isn't even that difficult to play! Well...I'm only a drummer in fairness.
Now I'm not sure if you reading this are aware but I am currently in 2 original bands, original meaning we make our own music with the intent to preform it, record it and hopefully sell it at some point in the future (we can always dream!) I highly enjoy both and really do not care if no one else does, I'd love to think everyone does but I know that isn't going to happen. They are 2 very contrasting bands but I wouldn't have it any other way, I'm getting myself out there, playing to different people in different environments, even meeting different people and really quite enjoying it. The stages of song writing for both bands are slightly different though. Let me tell you a little story of how I see my 2 bands.
I really fucking like Chad Smith (google him if you don't know his story) he's awesome, I know I'm not but I'd like to at least think I'm kind of similar to him with the bands situations. He is in a number of contrasting styled bands, he manages them well and plays whats right and it sounds awesome every time. His 'day job' or main band would be Red Hot Chili Peppers, it's a well documented fact that in the studio he plays down 'in the pocket' 'whats right for the song' which is a perfect way to be, he makes the song feel good, lets the 'tuned instruments' do their thing and he keeps it steady at the back and gets paid at the end of the day! In one of this other bands, Chickenfoot, he steps it up a little, has some more fun with it, but still at the end of the day, keeps it in the pocket and plays it safe. He also has another band, but saying as I'm in 2 then that one doesn't count (Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats, check them out for utter porn music). Now, I see my 'Red Hot Chili Peppers' as rainfalldown, they were the band out of the 2 I'm am in that I was in 1st (if that makes sense?) and they have bigger arrangements, lots of room for different instruments a few ballads in 6/8, all that kind of stuff yeah? I see my 'Chickenfoot' as my other band Masamune, we are ever so slightly louder, rockier, very Muse influenced, I can have some more fun with this, put more fills in, be more technical, be a 'show off drummer' so to say. Both of these bands are very special to me, I love the people in the bands and I especially love how serious they take the music we make, I do hope that somewhere down the line either one (or both!) of these bands will get somewhere, I highly doubt it but it would really be fantastic and not just for the 'look at me I'm a rockstar' thing either, but more just for the fact that we've tried really hard, played in total shit hole pubs to no body and still enjoyed ourself just because of the fact we love music! And the music we make.
This blog was pretty pointless in the long run, I just feel like I needed to express my love for music once more and the music that my bands make without sounding too egotistical. I could quite easily talk for hours upon hours about my bands and the music and the process of making a rainfalldown or a Masamune song but I can't be arsed and you probably wouldn't care either because a lot of people don't. Not that I'm saying you should care! But you wouldn't
Anyway, I've talked enough about shit you don't want to hear. Thanks for reading!!
